Mrs. Greynolds Welcome Letter

Welcome to fourth grade!  I am so happy you are in my class this year at Georgia School for Innovation and the Classics!

I hope you are excited to begin fourth grade because this will be a fun, fabulous and fascinating year of learning!  Throughout the year, we will strengthen and expand our skills as readers, writers and mathematical problem-solvers as we tackle new concepts and challenges in all academic areas.  We will read, discuss and write about intriguing new topics to refine and improve our literacy skills.  Get ready to stretch your marvelous math skills as we delve even more deeply into place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, estimation, geometry and more!

In Social Studies, we will study Native American cultures, sail the seas with the

European explorers, fight alongside of the Patriots as they battle the British for our country’s freedom, explore the west with Lewis and Clark, and investigate how our government works.

In Science we will blast off into the Solar System, predict the weather, and boogie through the water cycle.  Our experiments with light, sound, and motion will light up your mind and spark your imagination.  These are just a few of the interesting and captivating experiences awaiting you in the year ahead!

We are adding several Projects Based Learning Science and Social activities to our curriculum this year.  I have attached the proposed list of activities; however, this is a tentative list and may be subject to change to meet student needs.

In preparation for a successful year, please purchase the attached list of supplies for school.   This list is a combination of the general fourth grade supply list and a few items specific to our classroom.  Please refer to this list when purchasing supplies for the upcoming school year.

Please remember to bring all of your supplies on the first day of school, Tuesday, September 6, 2016. This will help us get organized so we can dive right into learning.  I would also like you to bring two additional items on the first day – your favorite summer reading book and something small that reminds you of a special summer memory. This will provide us with the opportunity to exchange ideas about the awesome books we read over the summer and give us ideas of some cool books we might want to read in the months ahead.  At the same time, we can enjoy getting acquainted with new friends and reacquainted with old friends.

Most importantly, please remember to bring your enthusiasm for learning, a positive attitude, sense of humor, caring heart and willingness to work hard.   With these qualities in place, we can accomplish fantastic feats in fourth grade! I can’t wait for our learning extravaganza to begin!
